Why Do I Love Dallas, and What Am I Doing to Make it Better

Students may choose to write about the things they love to do, the places they go, or the people they interact with in Dallas. They may write about ways they have helped their family and neighbors, or participate in school and community activities.

ESSAY CONTEST PROCEDURES

1. The Sesquicentennial Student Essay Contest is open to ALL students in grades K-12, whether the student is in public school, public charter school, private school, or home school.
2. All entries must be received by January 31, 2024.
3. All submitted entries must be accompanied with a completed entry form. No personal or identifying information may appear on the essay itself (names, addresses, teacher's name, or grade in school).
4. Winners will be notified by email, after the judging is completed. No original essays will be returned.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Students essays will be judged on the exposition of the theme, depth of insight, writing skill and sincerity of tone. Suggested essay length is one to two pages (typing is optional). A submitted essay must be the student’s own work.
