Building Division ISO Rating

Building Code Effectiveness Grading Classification

The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) evaluates the City of Dallas Building Division. The ISO is an independent statistical, rating and advisory organization that serves the property/casualty insurance industries. Their evaluations grade a building division's effectiveness as to building construction regulation. With an evaluation period every five years, the City has an opportunity to continually improve its score, which is shown on a range from 1 to 10, with 1 being exemplary.  Unfortunately, employee training and longevity under five years has a negative impact on scoring.  Recent unexpected economic circumstances has lead to staffing issues and lack of training opportunities in the last three years, therefore, it will take the next five year cycle to recover and improve scores that were impacted.

The most recent ISO rating evaluation for the City of Dallas Building Division was completed in August 2022.  The City's Building Division rating for the 2022 evaluation is “4” for one & two family residential property and "3" for the commercial and industrial property rating.

This advisory material is relayed to insurance companies that subscribe to the ISO rating information. The lower the rating range, the lower the insurance costs can be for residents and business owners with participating insurance companies. According to the ISO, a listing of subscribing insurers is proprietary, therefore residents and business owners should contact their insurance carrier directly to see if they subscribe and if they provide any type of discount based on that rating.
