City of Dallas Historic Preservation

The City of Dallas prioritizes the preservation of history in the community through protection for historic buildings, and recognition of historic individuals from Dallas. Currently, the City of Dallas has 26 properties listed on its Local Landmarks Register, and two properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The City is currently undergoing an application process to establish a national historic district in the historic downtown, which will provide protections for these buildings as well as resources to the building owners to help offset the costs of preserving historic buildings.

The City of Dallas participates in the federal Certified Local Government program, which is administered by the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office. Through this program, the City has received grant funding from the State of Oregon to complete projects like the Local Landmarks Register and the National Historic District Application.

Historic Preservation efforts are advised by an advisory committee of community stakeholders, the Dallas Local Landmarks Commission.

Historic Preservation is an ongoing process that is never truly complete. The City of Dallas welcomes feedback from all community members on how history can be preserves in the community.
