Neighborhood Traffic Studies

Trip Counts & Speed Studies

The Engineering Division conducts vehicle counts and speed studies throughout the community. The division uses the data collected to support in the design of projects and traffic calming issues. These studies are also used to assist the Police Department in identifying sections of roadway where speeding may be occurring.

The City utilizes radar based counting equipment to conduct  traffic studies in our neighborhoods. One of the advantages of the radar counter is that it is all but invisible to drivers. Since there are no road tubes in the road, and no other obvious signs that data is being collected, you get unbiased data without drivers changing their driving habits.

If you believe a trip count or speed study is needed on a particular section of our road network, please review the map to see if there is a study for that area.  If there isn't a study shown, one can be requested by contacting the Public Works Department at 503-831-3559. As new studies are completed, they will be added to the map below.
