Street Tree Planting, Care and Removal

Street Tree Planting

Street trees are often planted at the end of the construction of a subdivision, but may occur at any time. The City's Tree Board has approved a Street Tree Planting List, of tree species that are allowed to be plated as street trees. The City has also developed a Street Tree Planting Detail which shows you the appropriate way to plant a street tree to ensure its long term health and survivability.

Street Tree Care & Maintenance

Dallas City Code Section 3.814 describes the property owner on whose property the street tree is located, and the owner of any tree overhanging any street or public right-of-way shall be responsible for maintenance of such street tree.

Street Tree Removal and Replanting

The first step you will need to take is to get a Street Tree Removal Permit from the City of Dallas. The species, quantity, and planting location will be reviewed and approved by the Public Works Department. Contact the Public Works Department to request a site evaluation. A City of Dallas staff member will visit your site, speak with you, and determine final approval of street tree choices.
