Street Trees

Dallas Development Code 3.2.040 outlines the street tree requirements within the city limits. Street trees are planted in the right-of-way, usually on the front of the property near the street or sidewalk, or in the case of a corner lot they may be placed along the street side of the property as well.

Maintenance & Care of Street Trees

It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain and care for trees that are growing within or overhanging any street or public right-of-way. Per Dallas City Code 3.814 trees shall be regularly pruned so that the branches do not significantly obstruct the light from any street lamp or obstruct the view of any street intersection. They shall be trimmed to 14 feet above the street surface and 8 feet above the sidewalk surface.

Tree limbs that grow near high voltage electrical conductors shall be maintained clear of such conductors by Pacific Power. Please contact Pacific Power at 888-221-7070 or by email at vegetationmgmtpaccor@pacificorp.com.

If trees are not pruned within the standards of the Dallas City Code 3.814, City Work Crews may prune plants or shrubs in the manner provided for the abatement of obnoxious vegetation as provided in DCC 5.450 through 5.460.
