Street Division
The Street Division maintains, repairs and improves the City's street system to enable the safe and efficient travel of the motoring, pedestrian, and bicycling public. The City of Dallas is responsible for the maintenance of over 70 miles (118 lane miles) of paved streets, unimproved streets, alleys, 2000 signs, and 5 bridges. Maintenance and repair work includes paving and patching, crack sealing, street sweeping, street painting/marking, sidewalk and curb repair, mowing, maintaining right-of-way, rain gardens, and tree and brush trimming. Traffic signals, street lights, and larger bridge maintenance work are maintained with contractual services through other government agencies. Funding for the division is received through State and Federal gas tax allocations, with minor general fund support.
